SYS.STATUS: OPTIMAL

Hey — thinking aloud here, but this Google Gemini Student / Google AI Pro offer is really worth grabbing if you're eligible. Let me layout everything (warts + wins) so you can decide whether to jump in.

What’s the offer

For students (18+ in eligible colleges in India), Google is giving one full year of Google AI Pro / Gemini AI Pro for free!

Deadline

  • Last date to register: September 30, 2025 for students in India.

  • For other regions, some offers end October 6, 2025.

Eligibility / What you need

Just a few things:

  • Be enrolled in a higher education institution (college/university)

  • A valid student email / proof via SheerID to confirm your status.

  • A personal Google (Gmail) account. (

What you get — full features

This is where the value is big.

Feature What’s included / how it helps
Gemini 2.5 Pro model Access to Google’s most capable AI model. Helps with understanding tough concepts, homework, writing, idea generation.
Deep Research For digging into complex topics, detailed reports, summaries, more than just surface answers. Good for projects / understanding advanced material.
Veo-3 Fast  Video generation from text or photos/videos; creative presentations; cinematic or dynamic content.
NotebookLM upgrades Higher limits in notebooks, more sources, more audio/video summaries, etc. Helps keep your notes and research better organised.
Integration with Google Apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chrome) You can use AI features while you're writing essays, creating slides, collaborating, etc. No need to juggle separate tools as much.
2 TB cloud storage Google Drive + Gmail + Photos storage. Big help since assignments, videos, presentations tend to eat up space.

  Limitations to watch:

  • After the free year, it will auto-renew at the paid rate unless you cancel. So you’ll need to remember to turn it off if you don’t want to pay later. (Gemini)

Why it’s beneficial:

I’ll admit: this is a serious value play if you’re in college right now. Here’s what you could do with it:

  • Save money: A plan that normally costs ~₹19,500 per year becomes free. That’s money you can use for textbooks, courses, etc.

  • Work smarter: With powerful AI, tasks like essay writing, summarizing, researching get faster. You can spend more time understanding than gathering.

  • Less friction: Storage + integration with the tools you already use = fewer “I don’t have space” / “I need another tool/app” problems.

If I were you, I’d definitely apply before the deadline, even if I wasn’t totally sure I’ll use every tool.

More coming soon!!

Thank You

Exam Resource Hub: A Project Nobody Asked for

The Exam Resource Hub: A Project Nobody Asked For TimePass Labs, by Arnav I haven't written here in a while, so let me catch you up with something I've been meaning to talk about: the Exam Resource Hub. Nobody asked for it. That's kind of the whole point. A friend of mine was prepping for competitive exams and kept struggling with one specific thing, static GK. Not the kind of subject you can cram the night before; it's the kind that rewards steady, boring, daily consistency. I wasn't doing anything better with my time, so I put together a small resource around it, mostly to pass the time. At some point I decided to make it public, and I'm pretty sure that dozen or so people I shared it with didn't really use it either. That was fine. Nothing about this project was built for an audience. Keeping it deliberately simple The one design decision I was strict about from day one: don't over-build this. It would've been easy to reach for a f...

🧰 My Gear — The Stuff I Use (and Sometimes Overuse)

People like to say “It’s not about the gear, it’s about how you use it.” Sure… but it’s also fun to talk about the gear.
